Penn State University Team Camp

Hello everyone! I would like to take the team to the Penn State University Team Camp II this year from July 8-11! We need at least 8 girls to attend, and the brochure just came out today. I have attended PSU volleyball camps twice: once as a coach and once as a player and I highly recommend attending! The cost is $295 and it covers a t-shirt, housing, and all meals. The team would be staying in a dorm together on campus. Because PSU won the National Title in Women's volleyball this year, I am worried that if we don't act fast we will be on the wait list...so we need to get on this quickly. Also, this will help with nailing down summer dates before you begin to plan. If you are interested, please e-mail Coach R. and pick up a registration form outside of her classroom to be filled out ASAP! I will need these by the second week in January so I can send in our forms to hold a spot for our team. You can go online and read the details of what needs to be done as well at www.psusportcamps.org. We are still working on the transportation aspect so hold tight with this. Your quick response is greatly appreciated, and I look forward to some team bonding!

Response to Save the Date!

Katie Lambe said...

Thank you to all of you for participating in this wonderful event! And a special thank you to my good friend, Coach Roehrenbeck, for organizing.

Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers in America, affecting 1 in 8 women. An estimated 178,480 new cases of breast cancer are expected to occur among women in the U.S. during 2007, and an estimated 40,460 women will die from breast cancer. My mom was one of them.

Fortunately, fundraising events like these will help fund research to one day eliminate this terrible disease forever. The money you raise will be donated to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure, the world's largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists.

I look forward to cheering you on this season and to seeing you on September 18th.

Go Vikings!

Katie

Save the Date! September 18, 2007

Please mark your calendars for this special event. We will be participating in this event this year on September 18. To read more about it, please click on the link to the Volley for the Cure website. In early July, I was touched personally by the loss of a friend to breast cancer. Her name was Karen Lambe. Interesting enough, Karen was the mother of a best friend of mine (Katie) that I met through club volleyball my freshman year of high school. We have remained friends to this day, even though we went to different high schools and different colleges. The girls that started this event have a similar story. They were friends through club volleyball, but went to different high schools so they decided to do something to raise awareness of breast cancer. Only one school has done this so far, but the Ohio High School Athletic Association would like all 800 teams in the state of Ohio to help raise awareness and money for this cause. We will be selling t-shirts for $5, and one of those dollars will be going to breast cancer research. We would also like to hold a raffle at the game, so if you know of any local business owners that would like to donate a gift to our raffle that would be great! Please read more about this event on the website, and begin to ask friends to help by buying t-shirts. We will send home order forms with the girls, but please feel free to take them to work or ask neighbors as well! Thank you for your support!

Weight Lifting Schedule changes for this week!

No lifting on Friday morning! Weight lifting has been moved to Thursday morning from 7-9AM.

Message from Coach Clancy:
Follows is the weight room schedule for the next two weeks (July 30-August 12). The two biggest changes are the reduction in hours on Tuesday, and the switch from Friday to Thursday for field hockey, volleyball, soccer and tennis.

I am holding a speed/agility clinic on Tuesday from 5-6 pm. All athletes are welcome.

Please let your athletes know of these changes. Signs are posted in the weight room, but I want to ensure all athletes are aware.

The weight room will also be closed due to my vacation from August 6-10.

Please let us know when we get up there! Thanks!

I am still waiting to hear back about the start time of the tournament, but for now plan to be at the school at 6:45 AM. I know, I know, very early! If your parents plan to attend, directions can be found on Mapquest.com. We will be playing at Wadsworth High School. Please bring a white shirt, and a colored shirt for the tournament. FYI: Mud Volleyball Tournament Opening sent by Alyssa Leonard's Mom

Rich has put together a team to play at a charity mud volleyball tournament
next Saturday, 7/21.

Unfortunately he just lost a player and without another woman (ideally TWO)
they'll have to pull out. The tournament is at Beulah Park. Pool play
begins @9:30 to obtain rank and after lunch they have tiered games.

Alyssa is 14 and will be playing also, so focused teens are welcome.

If you (or anyone you know, please forward this along) are interested in
having a very messy but fun day at Beulah Park, please email him at
rleonard128@gmail.com and he will send you more details.

Thanks!

Marideth

Saturday, July 14 Change

We have decided to attend the River View Summer Tourney instead of Ashland on Saturday. This will be free for our team, so we do not need to worry about payment on the day of. I need everyone to bring at least one white shirt and one colored shirt for the tournament. If you have CA shirts that would be great, if not do not worry about it. In case we have a libero we have to bring 2 different types of shirts that are contrasting. The vans will leave at 6:45 AM so please be there on time! The information about the tournament is as follows...

Location: River View HS & JH Directions: River View is approximately an hour and 15 minutes from Gahanna. Best way to come is on Route 16 and then take SR 60 in Warsaw. In Warsaw turn right and travel about 3 miles to the school (it is on a sharp curve).

Format: 3 pools of 4 teams each. (each team is guaranteed 4 matches)
Pool play with tournament to follow.

Officiating: Referees (non-sanctioned) will be provided for all
matches. Entrants will be expected to provide a down official, line judges and a score-flipper. (JO style) A schedule will be provided for officiating/scoring responsibilities.

Warm-up: Balls will be provided. There will be a 10 minute warm
up before your first match of the day (5 and 5), and a 6 minute warm-up (3 and 3) before all other matches.

pool, playing 2 games against each opponent. Rally to 25 starting at 5, cap at 30.
