End of Season Banquet- Oct 27

The 2008 Columbus Academy Volleyball Team will have their end of season banquet in the dining hall at 6:30 on October 27.The entire family is invited. Cost is $10.00 per person. Each family is being asked to bring a treat for the dessert/candy table.

Players don't forget your final buddy gift! Final Buddy gift should be around $15.00. This should be something special in remembrance of the season or team . Something personalized from each girl to their buddy, but must represent the CA Volleyball team/ season in some way. Get creative!

We might have you each present it to your buddy in front of the group and explain what it represents, or if there is a funny story that goes with it. Maybe!

Power

The power is back on, so we are back to normal for volleyball. We'll have a home game tomorrow. Please be sure to check the archives for Saturday's update. Please go to the dining hall tomorrow right after school and then come up to my classroom to watch film until 4:20. Practice will be until 5:00 on Friday. Again, please plan to meet at Tree of Life on Saturday and let me know if you have any transportation issues. Thank you.

Tomorrow - Thurs.

Other than tomorrow being Molly's birthday, we may not have school. Between 9-10 AM, I should be getting a phone call explaining the situation if we are off. Mr. F. is going to try to get us transportation out to Licking Valley to play the game since it's a league match. I will update the blog as soon as I hear and begin a phone chain. If we are off, plan to play tomorrow at Licking Valley. Also, plan to meet at the school at 3:30 pm. If you would like to ride with your parents to and from the game you may do that as well. You would need to be at Licking Valley by 4:15- JV, and 4:40 Varsity. This is all I know, so please be patient until I hear more tomorrow.

Varsity - Saturday

Varsity girls - Please be at the game vs. Tree of Life on Saturday at 9:00 AM. Since there will be no JV we are hoping that everyone can meet there that morning and be taken home after the game. We have a game at 10 and 11, but you need to be there NO LATER than 9 AM. Please bring both white and maroon uniforms. If you think you can't meet there or get a ride, please e-mail Coach R ASAP. The server is currently down, so you may call me if need be. Thank you.

Tomorrow

We are currently working on a back up plan for Licking Valley tomorrow. If we do not have school, we MAY POSSIBLY be heading there for our match since they do have power. I will confirm once I hear back from Mr. F. We will also be trying to figure out transportation to the game. I will keep you posted, but please keep that in mind as an option. Thank you for your support and understanding.

Wednesday's Practice

Wednesday's volleyball practice has been cancelled as of now due to no power in the gym. If I hear differently, each girl will be getting a phone call of when practice will be held. Please make sure you are getting some sort of exercise today at home. Also, if we have school tomorrow plan to meet in my classroom after your team meal in the dining hall. (This applies to Varsity) JV girls, you will need to set up the gym after eating in the dining hall. Please make sure everything is ready by 4:00.

Message from Kim Stercula

Coaches,

Open the attachment to see the announcement we've created for Physicals Night, Wed, June 4. Please share this information with your student-athletes and parents via email, phone calls, banquets, or team/parent meetings ASAP. Please note, there are two (2) required forms we need to have completed and available to the athletic department PRIOR to ANY PARTICIPATION in practices starting this July.

The first is the Medical/Travel Release form the parents complete on line. This form has three (3) sections; Emergency Medical Authorization, Health History, and Over-The-Counter Medication Authorization. Parents can accompany their children (grades 7 - 12) to physicals night June 4 and complete/review the Medical/Travel Release form in the computer lab in Dennett Hall at the same time the student-athletes are receiving their physicals.

The pre-participation physical exam (PPE) form is the second document we need on file. Parents fill out pages 1, 3 and 4. The evaluating physician completes page 2. All PPE forms are to be turned in to the Athletic Department once completed and signed by a parent, if the student-athlete is not 18 years old. No activity at least 1 hour prior to having the physicals done.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to call me or the Athletic Department.

Thanks,

Kim

Wednesday, June 4

Upper School 6:00 pm
Middle School 6:45 pm

Parents and students meet in the Dining Hall.
(Screening exams are held in Dennett Hall after sign-in at the Dining Hall)

This opportunity is offered to all student-athletes enrolled at CA entering grades 7 thru 12 in the 2008 – 2009 academic year. All student-athletes must have BOTH their on-line Medical/Travel Release form & physical form (PPE) completed and on file at Columbus Academy PRIOR to attending the first practice. The Medical/Travel Release form has 3 sections for you to complete or review; Emergency Medical Authorization, Health History, & Over-the-Counter Medication Authorization. The PPE form is valid for one calendar year from the exam date. Blank forms are available on the CA intranet (Athletic Health Forms), on the OHSAA web site, in the Athletic Department, in the Athletic Training Room, and in the Dining Hall the evening of the exams. Turn in all completed PPE forms to the Athletic Department.

Page 1 (along with pages 3 & 4) of the PPE form needs to be completed and signed by a parent/guardian PRIOR to the exam, giving the physician permission to evaluate the student-athlete. Please note that this is only a sports screening exam. It does not take the place of a thorough well-child check that is performed by your primary care physician. If you have any questions, please call Kim Stercula, Head Athletic Trainer, at 509-2257 (O) or 395-3908 (M).
